ABOUT

Sara Draper is a Houston-based dance artist/educator. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Houston and a dance minor. Her work history includes multiple dance disciplines, performing, teaching, choreographing, writing, directing a modern dance company, and running a dance business. She enjoys collaborating with composers, dancers, poets, musicians, and other creatives. She has also worked with opera singers as a movement instructor and choreographer. 

 

Recognition for Sara’s choreography includes an Individual Artist Fellowship from Houston Arts Alliance, three HAA Arts Project Grants, a Houston City’s Special Initiative Grant, a DiverseWorks Residency, and the 1995-96 Cultural Arts Council of Houston Creative Artist Award for her previous choreography. Her works have been seen locally at Zilkha Hall of Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, and at Miller Outdoor Theatre, among many venues. Outside of Houston, her work has been performed in Chicago, Atlanta, Louisiana, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.  

 

Sara’s current interests include exploring ritual with interdisciplinary performance, and in relationship restoration, both human-human and human-earth.  She continues to investigate ways that dance can contribute to male-female healing, both in performance and in her classes, like Healing Dance for Women. She is fascinated with experimental, interdisciplinary, collaborative work with multi-talented performers and creators. Her projects can be seen on the Sara Draper Dance website and Facebook page.
